gatsby #2

Direct:

(brief description about character traits)

-Daisy Buchannan, brought out to be seen as a angle dressed in a all white dress, innocent, purity, and light. (chapter1)

  • The description the author provides, reveals daisy as a direct character. The text makes the audience think of daisy as a saint, a pure, harmless, and tender kind of person.

Indirect:

(The characters personality is revealed throughout the text)

-During this part of story, daisy states about her daughter " I hope she'll be a fool, that's the best thing a girl can be in this world,"Ch. 1 pg. 17) which makes daisy's personality seem as a careless, irresponsible, negligent, engrossed in money type of character.

This illustration on daisy makes her an indirect character when she states " I hope she'll be a fool." This shows how daisy believes that a women cant make it in this world, it makes her true personality be released as an unsuccessful, careless person. She basically wants her daughter to have looks instead of brains, that way her daughter can get anything she wants wealth, attention, a superior reputation and to be pampered like her mother.

  • This relates to the theme of the American dream because as her mother we would expected her to want a better life for her child and a set future to not depend on no one but her self but instead she wishes she is an idiotic fool. another example is when she made the reckless decision of marring tom knowing she didn't love him."Daisy drank herself into numbness the night before her wedding, after she received a letter from Gatsby" Ch. 4

  • which reveals how love is an illusion because daisy only married toms money not tom. which made her seem as what kind of person she really is.

  • society/class: the cream colored/white dress brings out this theme because white is what makes the rich stand out other than worrying about more important things like helping charity they care about how they look and how they are seemed off as.(like daisy and how it makes her come out as a angle)

Character types:
  1. Round: Daisy, Gatsby, and Nick are some of the round characters in the text because their back rounds are fully known.
  2. Flat: A character like Wilson would be considered flat because we don't know much about him.
  3. Dynamic: Daisy would be dynamic because she changes from what she was at the begging of the text to the end.
  4. Static: Gatsby would be static because he's stays hopeful though out the entire text by trying to relive the past with daisy.
  • also daisy would be static because of the double dealing with tom and Gatsby through out the book.
